PARIS - Macaroons

So I travelled to Paris a while ago, and during my trip I decided to stuff myself with Macaroons.  My goal was to eat macaroons from different shops, and sample different flavors.  Here are a few pictures of what I ate.

MacDonalds - So the macaroons were not all that great, but they were not all that bad either.  They were soft, and moist, but I found them a bit too sweet, which meant that it was extremely sweet because macaroons are already sweet to begin with.  (Mango and Pistachio flavor)

Ladurée -  The great thing about my trip was the fact that I stayed a block away from the Ladurée shop.  I even had breakfast there... Yummy!  Laduree was one of the more popular macaroon shops in Paris.  My favorite flavors were pistachio and salted caramel.

Pierre Herme -  I loved the colors of these macaroons.  I picked these up at Gallery Lafayette.  They were very delicious as well.  These Parisians really know how to make fine Macaroons!

Pâtisserie Sadaharu - I absolutely love this shop, I went to the one at the Gallery Lafayette food department.  They had all kinds of Green Tea flavored pastries.  Green Tea is one of my absolute favorite flavors of all time!! I would definitely pay a visit to Pâtisserie Sadaharu in a heart beat! (If I could)  - I tried wasabi, matcha and genmaicha.

So my final thoughts on Macaroons... I enjoy eating them, but I can't eat too many at once.  I tried to stuff myself with Macaroons, if I did a count of how many Macaroons I ate from Paris, within the first three days I ate about twenty.  Afterwards I moved on to pastries... I love Paris!

Hello Seattle! - Tulouse Petit Kitchen and Lounge

So this is one of my not-so-secret spots to go to for some late night happy hour.  I've been here with my cousin "S" 3 times, and on all those 3 occasions I've had a fantastic time and a fantastic meal.  I found out about Toulouse Petit because the place was featured on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" - one of my favorite TV shows :). However they featured their breakfast (Bang for the Buck), which I've yet to try... Nevertheless, this is one of my favorite happy hour spots in North America!

One of the dishes we always seem to order is the manila clams, because "S" is just loves manila clams.  I prefer mussels, and pretty much everything else on the menu.  To be honest I tend to go a little overboard with the ordering, but that's just because we don't get that kind of deal here in Vancouver...

So here is what we shared!

Foie Gras with Pineapple - Vanilla Bean Conserva over Savory Pain Perdu

Helix Snails Garlic and Fresh Herbs

Manila Clams with Spanish Chorizo - "S" Favorite!

Mussels with Saffron and Mustard, Pomme Frites with Aioli - My favorites!

Other things I've tried
-  Tombo Tuna Tartare with a Horseradish - Truffle Vinaigrette.
-  Manila Clams Springtime with Fresh Herbs.

What I'd like to try
-  Fried Spring Okra
-  Classic Mussels a la Mariniere
-  Rustic Duck and Pistachio Terrine (Charcuterie)
-  Pomme Frites with Veal Pan Sauce (not sure what to expect)

Overall I highly recommend Toulouse Petit for happy hour.  Everything I've tried has been delicious and relatively affordable.  According to their menu, there's Seventy Happy Hour food preparation, and 50 of the items are less than $5.  :) Deal!

Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe

Macaroons!!

I had the Hazelnut, Caramel and Pistachio Macaroons

Overall Thierry is a great place for having tea and desserts.  They close around 11pm, so it's a great place to go to for dessert after dinner.  The only problem is that this place is usually packed with people, and they usually sell out of all the good macaroon flavors.

The Macaroons were pretty good.  The texture of the macaroons were chewy.. in comparison to the macaroons at Thomas Haas, which is softer and more delicate.  Between Thomas Haas and Thierry, I personally prefer the macaroons at Thomas Haas.

Now its time to go to Paris for some real macaroons!

My Greek Taverna

My Greek, is probably one of my favorite Greek restaurants in town.  The food portions are quite heavy, and I usually end up sharing my meal, with anyone that wants to share...

Heres what I had for dinner...

Starter: Homous and Pita

Kalamari

8 oz New York Steak - Charboiled to perfection, medium rare.

Overall this is a great place to have a delicious, reasonably priced meal.  The best thing about this place is that it can hold large groups of people, like my family! (we're usually a group of 8-10 people).  My cousin (lets call her "S") loves the potatoes, that is what she comes here for.   "S" always eats the rack of lamb, and she cleans up her side of potatoes.

Pinkberry-Metrotown

After hours of shopping, I decided to head to Pinkberry for frozen yogurt!
I had the Mango and Original flavor, with mochi, strawberries, and mango, with some fruity caviar-like topping.

It was delicious. Its hard to explain.  You won't understand what I mean till you try it. I love frozen yogurt!

Curry Udon at Ebi Ten

A bowl of noodles is always nice to have on a cold wintery night.

One of the best places for an affordable, fast, and delicious bowl of udon is Ebi Ten.  They serve takoyaki, chicken karage, sushi, rice etc... as well.  It's located opposite the public library, which makes it  an ideal place for a post-studying meal.

Curry Udon sprinkled with tempura flakes!

The sauce is more gravy like, than soupy.  It's very flavorful, and has that Japanese Curry flavor (e.g. Glico Curry)  So for those who enjoy eating Japanese Curry Rice, you may enjoy a bowl of curry udon as well.  What I like to do with my curry udon is sprinkle a generous amount of tempura flakes over my noodles.  :)

Duffin's Donuts

I've always bussed and drove by Duffin's Donuts, and always wondered what was inside the store.  When I actually made the decision to stop by for some food, I never expected to find what I found...

...The great thing about this place is that you can get Donuts, Mexican Food and Chinese Food all in one place.  There is a wide selection of food, the food is cheap (you get what you pay for), and the place is opened 24/7, and they actually sell donuts...

During my visit, I ordered a Chicken Torta Sub, and some donuts.

The sub had chicken, avocados, tomatoes and lettuce

If you're out late at night, and feeling hungry, stop by Duffin's Donuts!

Chicken Schnitzel

Hey everyone!

I think its time for me to start blogging again, I'll try to be more consistent.  I've been very busy working full time, going to school part time, spending my left over time either studying or hanging out with friends and family.

Anyways, here's a dish I made a while ago...I made Chicken Schnitzel with Tomato Sauce.

SALAD!

It was time consuming and messy to make, but overall a satisfying meal.

Will try to keep on posting!

Edible Canada at the Market

Fish and Chips - Tempura batter, black sesame, cilantro, duck fat, BC potatoes.  Served with some Coleslaw.

Every time I visit Edibles I have to get a side of crispy duck fat BC potatoes, bacon aioli FRIES!  Another dish that I enjoy eating here is their Canadian Burger!  For a simple dish, it's quite tasty.  The next time I visit I will probably order the Canadian Burger with a side of fries, or the Pemberton Meadow Steak Frites.

Why would I come back?  The nice ambiance, tasty food (especially the FRIES), and the location (Granville Island).  If it's a sunny warm day I highly recommend sitting on the patio!

Fruitography- Apple's

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away"

Apple facts:
  • Apple's are sodium, fat and cholesterol free.
  • Apple's are packed with antioxidants!
  • Don't peel the skin! The apple skin contains more antioxidants and fiber than the apple flesh.
  • Apple's have anti-carcinogenic properties, and could prevent you from the potential risks of developing cancers.
  • Apples are delicious!

Meat & Bread

This is how I spend my Saturdays! Wake up, find a place to eat, and wander around downtown.

Porchetta- Rossdown Farms Turkey Thigh, Lemon Rosemary Jus, Spiced Pickled Cabbage, Roast Garlic Aioli, Pea Sprout

I've returned to Meat & Bread many times!  I do enjoy eating sandwiches, and I love eating crispy pork! This place is definitely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy eating sandwiches.  One of the best thing about this place is that they make their own bread, their bread has a crunchy/chewy texture.

The sandwiches usually leave me feeling satisfied, however if you are still hungry, you should go for some maple bacon ice cream, which I would love to try some time soon!  It sounds very interesting, and sounds like a delicious combination.  Maple & Bacon are two ingredients that would seem to work well together.

Meat and Bread very cool, casual and relaxed atmosphere.  People are always popping in and out of the shop, since the food's served fast.  I personally don't mind sitting at the long table.  Oh, I love the SIP natural handcrafted soda's that they serve here, I personally enjoyed the rosemary-lemon flavor.

Overall I would recommend Meat & Bread to those who enjoy sandwiches.

Yogurtland Seattle

What's not to love?

I love this place, there's so many different flavors and toppings to choose from.  I've tried just about every flavor that the store had to offer.  Yogurtland is possibly the best frozen yogurt store I've been to thus far.  I think we definitely need a place like this in Vancouver.  I would pretty much drive all the way from Vancouver to Seattle just to satisfy my frozen yogurt craving.

Green Apple, Original, Graham Cracker, Chocolate, Taro, Peanut Butter Mochi, Skors, and Cookie Dough

I want a yogurtland here!! (Vancouver) :)
