Deal of the Day! Fairmont Afternoon Tea

Fantastic Deal of the Day!   $72 voucher for $36 for Afternoon Tea at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

http://www.dealfind.com

Usually I find that high tea is very expensive, but when you find a deal that is two for one, how can you pass it up? You just can't!

I went last time, and it was fantastic.  The scones were served warm and fresh, they tasted great with jam and devonshire creme.  The tea I had was delicious as well.  It was a lavender + earl grey combination, I forgot the name of the tea, and the flavors of the tea's slowly fading away from my memory.  I must go back soon and I will!

I will post pics after my visit!

Quinoa with Kale

Decided to cook some Quinoa because I felt like eating something healthy.  Quinoa is a fantastic source of protein! So if you wanted to give meat a break, you can just snack on some Quinoa.
To cook the Quinoa you need to wash the dried Quinoa, to remove the bitter-tasting saponins.
Quinoa and Kale (reddish-green kale)

I decided to make some Quinoa with Sauteed onions and Kale.  I cooked the Quinoa (1 cup of Quinoa with 2 cups of water).  Then I sauteed the onions till they were well cooked, then sauteed the kale.     Afterwards I mixed the cooked Quinoa with the Kale and Onion, and drizzled some olive oil.  I added some salt and pepper for taste.  Oh, I threw in some cilantro's too.

Go ahead, try cooking some Quinoa!

Lin Chinese Cuisine

"Delicious" and "Tasty" is probably the best two words to describe the food at Lin Chinese Cuisine.  I am a big fan both the Xiao Long Bao, Honey Prawns, and Beijing Style Meat Cakes. The flavors are remarkable!

Xiao Long Bao - These delicate dumplings are filled deliciousness! They were very juicy as well.
Beijing Style Meat Cake - These meat cakes were pan fried.  They had a somewhat doughy texture.  These were very juicy as well.
Hot and Sour Soup
Honey Prawns - Deep fried, crunchy prawns, smothered delicious honey sauce.
Smoked Duck
Shanghai Style Rice Cakes

I could go on and on about how tasty the food is, but I think that if you enjoy Chinese food, you should definitely check Lin Chinese Restaurant out.  The price of food is quite reasonable for the amount and quality of food you receive.

Beaver Tail (Lonsdale Quay)

Don't worry it's not an actual Beaver tail...It's better.

Beaver Tail is awesome! It's basically stretched pieces of whole wheat dough, deep fried to perfection sprinkled sugar and cinnamon (They also come with other types of topping). It's genius!

Delicious Beaver Tail

I really enjoyed the food at Beaver Tail and I will definitely return whenever I can.  I recommend this place to people who enjoy eating churros, or cinnamon donuts.  This is a fantastic alternative!

Old Bavaria Haus

Holy Schnitzel!!! I felt like I went back in time as I stepped in to the restaurant.  It just felt like a blast to the past.

Old Bavaria Haus serves all kinds of schnitzel dishes, so if you come here, it's probably a good idea to try out some schnitzel.  I guess they specialize in schnitzel.  You can basically get your schnitzel topped with prawns, mushrooms, crab meat, ham, cheese, etc.  They have about ten different schnitzel dishes.  You can even get schnitzel and bratwurst, if you're in for the whole German food experience. You just have to see the menu.

Schnitzel and Prawns - Schnitzel topped with fresh local shrimp and bernaise sauce.  Served with Pan fried potatoes, vegetables and red cabbage.
Red Snapper - Poached and topped with sun dried tomatoes, asparagus and shrimp with a reisling sauce, served with spatzle.  (spatzle is like pasta, it's different but in a good way)

Overall, Old Bavaria Haus has fairly good European Cuisine.  The service was fairly good to, they serve you garlic bread rather than plain old bread.  That's a definite plus!

Penang Delight Cafe

I am a big fan of both Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine.  Having been to both countries many times  I have set high standards for Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants. Most restaurants don't live up to standards set in Singapore/Malaysia, however some have come pretty close.  In my opinion, I would probably have to say that Penang Delight Cafe, serves decent Malaysian food. Every item we ordered off the menu was tasty and delicious.

Mee Rebus - Very delicious and flavorful!
(awesome) Asam Laksa - The flavors were delicious, hot and sour however this dish was very spicy!

Of course...Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants in Vancouver can't be compared to the original cuisine back in Singapore/Malaysia, however Penang Delight was fairly good.

I will probably return...

Elysian Coffee

My visit to Elysian Coffee on a beautiful relaxing Saturday...
Cookies make me Smile
So does this...
and this...After this trip, I will only drink coffee with Latte Art.

Recently I decided give up Starbucks and venture out to other coffee shops in the city.  This coffee adventure has been fun so far, I do enjoy lattes, and coffees, but I would not consider myself a coffee addict.

Anyways, Elysian Coffee must be a popular joint, since it was so busy when I arrived there.  I guess the word is out that they do have awesome coffee... They do have a limited menu, but I think that's what makes each of their drinks more special.

This joint has a pleasant atmosphere, although it's probably not one of the best places to get some serious studying done. In fact, they don't have internet in the afternoon, they only switch it on in the evenings.   Plus they don't have very many electrical outlets too. So if you're planning to get some serious studying done, you might want to head somewhere else (ironically there is a Starbucks just a block away)

Overall, I enjoyed my baked goods and my delicious smooth and beautifully presented latte.

Baked Kale Chips

Who new Kale's delicious!! I just discovered how amazing these crunchy flakey leaves of Kale tasted.   They are seriously good, especially with a little bit of salt sprinkled on top.  I can't stop eating them, they are addictive, and healthier than chips!

Gene Cafe

Great Coffee.  I had a latte this time, and it was deliciously smooth.  I've read some reviews stating that there is an unusual pretentious atmosphere at Gene Cafe.  I really don't care.  I just go for the coffee.
