Elysian Coffee - Part 2

I love Elysian Coffee.  It's conveniently located on Broadway, just a block away from the Cambie Skytrain, and off the 99 B-Line.  I usually enjoy a nice drink whenever I feel that I've had a "productive" week.

This trip was all about the hot chocolate.  I just felt like having hot chocolate that day.  I also felt that it was time to try something different at Elysian.  I usually order lattes or cappuccinos.

Quiche - The quiche was pretty good.  I enjoyed the filling, and the crust tasted buttery.  

This is probably one of my favorite coffee shops in town.   On my next visit I will try the Chai Latte.

Bandidas Taqueria

Bandidas Taqueria! I didn't know what to expect when I came here.  Turns out that everything on the menu is vegetarian or vegan.  I didn't know that! Prior to reading the menu, I was in the mood for chicken that night, but I guess it's okay, veggies are good too.

I had the Laura May:  Pinto Beans, Jack Cheese, Sour Cream, Fresh Red Salsa and Romaine Lettuce.  On hand made corn tortillas.  

I enjoyed the simplicity of the soft tacos.  The dish tasted fresh, and the flavors of the ingredients went well together.  Oh, the hand made tortillas was one of the highlights of this dish you can't beat hand made tortillas! It's 100x better than supermarket tortillas!

I guess I could probably re-create a similar dish like this at home, minus the hand made tortillas.  Just saying... I know how to shred cheese, buy pinto beans, sour cream, and cheese,  chop lettuce, and make fresh salsa! I just don't know how to make tortillas. I guess I'd be stuck with supermarket tortillas.. :(

Overall this place is a great place to chat, enjoy food and basically enjoy the company of your friends after a long hectic week.

On my next trip I'd like to try the Nachos!

Avocado Smoothie

Avocado Smoothie - Low Fat Vanilla Yogurt, Avocado, Almond Milk, Ice, (Honey)

Avocado's are good for you, they are high in fiber, contain "good" fat, and have more potassium than bananas.  Go pick up some avocado's and turn them into creamy, delicious smoothies!  I froze the leftovers in ice trays.

Gyo-O

My trip to Gyo-O turned out to be an adventurous dining experience.  This trip I ate fresh-water eel, an assortment of raw fish, and sea urchin.

Uni! a.k.a Sea Urchin - Tasted rich and creamy.  Had an acquired taste.

You either love it or hate it.  It looks kind of weird too.   

Overall, the Gyo-O has a large extensive menu, and the food is worth trying.  I was quite satisfied with my experience here.  I think I ate way too much raw-fish for one night... If you love Raw Fish, Japanese Food, Sushi, and enjoy trying something different, I would highly recommend Gyo-O.  

On my next visit I'd like to try the Chirashi Don, I'd probably stick to Salmon and Tuna.
